Another Day Another Dollar
So Apparently the act of voting is worth $36 dollars in 2021. That’s $1 for each day of the election. That’s pretty poor wages for keeping up with all of the pertinent information and news. In any case, I followed the instruction given by the buyer and so I voted my conscience as per their wishes. Thanks for supporting me through this process! Less Than 2Hrs to go!

24 Hours To Go
It was another busy weekend with a long Saturday spend outdoors in the Southern Alberta wind. Then a nice evening out with an old friend. It was a fantastic day! Today was spent travelling and dealing with the sand and grit deposited in all of our gear from yesterdays gales. Not as fun as yesterday but its good to have a day to recover before tomorrows election.
I keep hearing murmurs that people are considering bidding! If your considering remember you only have till tomorrow 6:30 pm MT.
Only a Few Days Left
This week seems to have slipped quietly past me. I’ve been busy but never seemed to accomplish anything. Now we are down to the last few days of the auction and it’s hard to keep up my energy.
We have another little trip planned this weekend and I will get to see an old friend. It’s been far to long since I’ve seen her. I’m excited for the trip and the visit and I’m sure it will rejuvenate me again. I could use the energy to get me through the last couple days of the auction.
Thank You For All The Support!
I keep finding things to change on the website. I put it together in such a hurry that I keep finding mistakes and ways to improve it. Thank you to those who have provided me with constructive criticism, I love your honesty. Thank you to those who have helped me execute this project both hands on and also with advice and know how. Thanks to my husband for putting up with the mayhem this project has created at home! Thank you to Rose for translating my word salad into coherent thoughts people can understand. And an especially big thank you to everyone who is liking, sharing, following and subscribing. Please keep doing the hard work!
Back To Work
The weekend was great but now it’s back to work on the project. I’m hoping to get a new video out today but I won’t promise it until Wednesday. There is always so much to do!
My Ballot finally came Monday. It took 8 days to get here, 5 business days. Today is the last for people to order their mail-in ballots. If there are still people who want to vote this way I hope they receive them in time.
I assembled the piece last night. I am fairly happy how it looks. I also recieived an offer on eBay. I will decline it. I feel like it undermines the message of the work to simply accept an offer. Interestingly, the shipping address is in Arizona. Hopefully there will be a bit more interest soon.
The weekend is here like it or not.
Today is Saturday. It’s one week today that this idea came to me. I started work on it Sunday by first ordering the ballot which has yet to arrive. I ordered the cabinet and painted it. I also had glass cut which I applied the title to -In Case of Democracy Break Glass. I created the website, and started building an online presence through social media. I have also spoken to office of the Commissioner of Canada Elections. All this on top of day job.
Now it’s Saturday and I have plans to go camping after work. I have mixed feelings about it in some ways. I could definitely use the break, however I feel guilty not staying home to work on it too. But I’m going to go and have a good time. I get to visit someone I don’t get to see nearly enough, and if it doesn’t rain too much Ill get to go for a day hike tomorrow.
Hopefully I wont be too late getting home to post a quick update and maybe a photo or two!
The Cabinet is done!
After unboxing the emergency cabinet I was initially disappointed. I thought the white was a bit dull. I decided it would be better red and am quite pleased with the results! I also decided that window glass would be better than the scored plexi. I had a piece of glass cut and applied a decal to the front with the title of the piece – In case of Democracy Break Glass.
The cabinet is complete and is just waiting for the election kit. I ordered the election kit with my ballot Sunday afternoon. It was a long weekend so today makes 4 business days that I’ve been waiting. According to the Elections Canada site it has been sent.
Phone Call with the
Commissioner of Canada Elections
Its Thursday night. It’s getting late and I’m a bit tired. But I thought it was important to update everyone about my 9 am phone call with The office of the Commissioner of Canada Elections.
Firstly I would like to say that the individual I spoke to was polite and pleasant. He was knowledgeable and I believe him to be honest. In short I feel like i discovered some little corner of the system that seems to be functioning well. I was impressed!
As for the information I received, there is some food for thought there. I’m a bit slow to process such info so please be patient while I spend some time thinking it through. In the mean time please rest assured that you are still fine to like, share, follow, and subscribe! I’m still asking for your help spreading the word! The piece will continue to progress.
Today I worked and waited.
Things are moving along. I still haven’t received my voting kit but I did receive the emergency cabinet Tues evening. I did an unboxing video which can be viewed on YouTube or Instagram. I decided it was a bit drab in white so I had it painted red. Much better! I also decided that the plexi-glass was a bit lacking so I had a piece of window glass cut and I cut and applied the decal tonight. I have posted some photos on Instagram and Facebook if you would like a preview.
As for awareness, I am off to a slow start. To those of you who have followed, shared, liked, and commented, I cant thank you enough! For this piece to be successful it will take all the support you have to give. Please keep spreading the word!
I don’t have all fans in my little following though. Apparently there has been a complaint regarding one of my posts. Elections Canada contacted me today but I was too busy to talk at the time. We scheduled a 9 am call for Thursday Morning. I will be sure to let you all know how that goes. I’ll get to it right after work!
Would you break the glass?
Artist Kim Fortin is auctioning an artwork called -In Case of Democracy Break Glass. The piece poses a question. What is the value of the artists’ vote during the Canadian Federal Election 2021?
The art piece consists of a wall mount emergency fire extinguisher cabinet. The glass of the cabinet displays the title of the piece, In Case of Democracy Break Glass. The lock and keys of the cabinet are disabled, requiring the glass to be broken in order to access the artist’s ballot secured inside.
The auction will run until September 20, 6:30 pm MT. At this point, whoever has the successful bid must decide if there is more value in leaving the piece intact, or in breaking the glass and using the ballot. Should the buyer choose to cast the ballot, they must message the artist, who will have one hour to break the glass, retrieve the ballot, fill it out and deliver it to her local polling station. Would you choose to break the glass?
